Positive displacement pipettes
Here you will find out more about how you can use BRAND positive displacement pipettes to efficiently dispense high-viscosity, low-viscosity or foaming media.

In contrast with air displacement pipettes, the piston is in direct contact with the aspirated liquid. The tightly fitting piston always wipes the walls of the tips completely clean - literally to the last drop. Therefore, results are always perfectly reproducible. There is no need to discard tips after each pipetting operation, since residual wetting is negligible. However, in cases where no carry-over can be tolerated, for example with infectious or radioactive media, a different BRAND Transferpette® model is recommended, such as an air displacement pipette with a disposable tip for convenient operation.
The Transferpettor is the ideal device for pipetting viscous media, such as highly concentrated protein solutions, oils, resins and fats, up to a viscosity of 50,000 mm2/s. High density media up to 13.6 g/cm3, such as glycerine, mercury, sulphuric acid, etc., can be dosed without recalibrating. Media with high vapor pressure up to 500 mbar, such as alcohols, ethers and hydrocarbons, can be easily and reliably dosed with high accuracy. Media which tend to foam, such as tenside solutions, are no problem for the Transferpettor.
An adjustment as known from the Transferpette® is not possible. However, when using the calibrating gauge from the maintenance kit it is possible to change the position of the piston rod of the Transferpettor micro (all volume ranges type fix; type adjustable volume up to 100µl included). Details on the procedure can be found in the operating manual in chapter "Changing the piston rod".
To avoid this problem you have to press the pipetting button fully down when attaching the new tip. Is the problem not solved, the piston rod is loose. Therefore, in the next step you have to tighten the piston rod locking device. Details on this can be found in the operating manual in the chapter "Changing the piston rod" part "Attaching the new piston rod".
Different reasons can be the cause. Please see the chapter "Troubleshooting" in the operating manual!
All our liquid handling instruments can be ordered DAkkS calibrated with certificate for a certain additional charge per piece. For ordering please add "DAkkS/...." as a prefix to the corresponding catalog number, e.g., DAkkS/7018 07 for a Transferpettor, 2.5-10µl, DAkkS calibrated. The current price list will provide more details on the additional charge for your requested instrument.
The reason therefore is a damaged tip or a damaged seal. The operating manual describes how to replace the tip/seal.

After a replacement of a volume determining spare part the instrument should always be tested completely.
For the Transferpettor with a nominal volume from 500µl and onwards BRAND only offers PP-Caps and PE-Seals.
The reason is the capillary that does not fit properly. Unscrew the collet, push the capillary completely to the stop and finger-tighten the collet again. Information is given in the manual in chapter "Changing the capillary" in part "To fit a new capillary".
